Eggshell Snack
November 2019

"That calcium was on loan, kids, so now that you don't need these anymore."

I don't know if Blue ate Skye's shell, but four eggs is a big enough investment maybe she'd
like to have it back, like some bird moms do after their babies have hatched. Cronch cronch.

Supper for Seven
November 2019

Mom and dad feeding the babies, and big sister feeding herself and occasionally observing.
Everyone's kind of learning how it's done, though Blue and Indo do already have the experience of raising Skye from a hatchling,
and just need to slightly adjust that to slightly different kind of babies.

Little Dawn, Sunny, Dusk, and Starlight will probably learn to eat on their own very soon,
as JP/W raptor chicks are pretty precocial. But breaking out of an egg takes a lot of energy,
so they get to be newborns and have everything handed to them in safely bite-size pieces for a bit.

A Welcome
December 2019

More local fauna was harmed in the making of a small treat for small mouths to feed.
Is it a delicious meal, is it an educational toy? It's both! Fun times learning how to open the present ensue.

Shielded
December 2019

A not so quick rain shower.

There's a canopy of foliage above their nest that usually does most of this job for them,
so, must be a pretty heavy one.

Disturbance
January 2020

Well, that quick and convenient breakfast acquisition really didn't go according to plan.

So, no hunting humans, or they'll send more humans to hunt you in retaliation - got it.
But no hunting these other creatures that are gathered in an enclosed area and easy to spot,
and which smell like what you grew up being fed, either?
No wonder this seemingly great place to nest in - with humans kind of close by, but their acting as a
deterrent for local predators and the easy access to food making up for that - wasn't already taken.

Direct aftermath of above. Sunny gets an improvised bath and half a fish.
And is about 1/4 of a second away from being scooped up by a parent to keep
the baby currently better resembling Rainy warm while those down feathers dry.

Just a bird holding his baby, in a way that because of reasons feels natural to both of them.
Nothing unusual here. :)
