Raptor repaints, vol. JP:TG
October-December 2020

Based on the raptors from Jurassic Park: The Game as they appear in my fanfic Last Queens of Thieves.
The fanfic itself can be read at AO3, and here's a page on my site of pictures I've drawn of the pack.

Materials:

  • polymer clay + liquid polymer clay

  • epoxy putty

  • aluminum foil

  • acrylic paint

  • glue

Leader

She is a customized Battle Damage Blue figure from the JWFK line.

  • removed the Battle Damage feature, and blended the edges of the patch covering it with epoxy putty
  • fully painted (except for toe claws other than dewclaws, and some of the inside of the mouth)

Swiftdive and Treeclimber

These two came out of a JP model kit made by Revell in 1997.
The kit had a big shared base for them, but I preferred to have more options in how to arrange them for display.
The raptors had already been assembled almost entirely by the kit's previous owner, so I picked up from there.

  • added the last missing pieces (two limbs), and trimmed away excess bits of plastic and smoothed some seams
  • used epoxy putty to seal the pieces together and fill in the biggest gaps
  • sculpted individual bases for them with polymer clay (and foil as filler)
  • made them tongues, too, since the models didn't have those originally, and glued them on
  • fully painted (except the tongues, which I made with polymer clay already in that colour)

Leader with her daughter and son, Shredder and Grappleclaws.
(More photos of their generation of the pack can be found here.)

Swiftdive with her daughters, Whirlwind and Triptail.
Whirlwind is at a perfect cuddle height!

Finder and Elusive (who is living up to his name, I see) with their dad.

Great-grandkids!
(More photos of little Tumult&Daydreamer's mom, who is Leader's granddaughter, can be found here.)

Also, some of the plants and pebbles on the bases glow in the dark!

You can find more pictures and explanations from
the process of making the figures at this tag on my blog.
